Halloween

Fall Parties and Parade- Fall parties will be on  October 29, and they will look different this year, due to the recent changes in mask requirements. Per school district guidelines, masks are required, regardless of vaccination status - unless otherwise exempted.

2:45 pm - 3:10pm:  Change into costumes and have fall treats- Limited Volunteers are welcome (established by teacher prior to event)

3:10 pm - 3:25pm: Franktown Fall Parade (all families are welcome to watch outside as the students stroll around the building)

Parents are welcome to take their kids home after the parade. Parents will need to sign your child out on a sign out sheet placed on a table at the front of the building while your child grabs their take home items from the classroom. All students must exit from the front office area. Thank you!

3:25 pm: Remaining students back in the classroom for an end of day fall video or fall activity - same Volunteers welcome if needed.

Original ArtworksWe have exciting news!

This year's Original Works Art Program will continue to be all online to make ordering easy for you. Here is how it will work:

The students have worked hard on creating artwork for the Original Works program. I mailed all of their artwork to Original Works on Oct 7th. Original Works will create a custom SCHOOL GALLERY for us that will include all of the student’s artwork. A customized brochure is created for each artwork submitted. Original Works will be shipping the brochures to the school for me to distribute home. You can follow the instructions and place your order. All the orders are processed together, sorted, packed, and sent to the school for distribution.

The products will arrive in plenty of time for the holidays as long as you place your order by the order deadline date of November 17th.

The School Gallery will be open on November 3rd. I will send the customized brochures home as soon as I receive them. Please be on the lookout for them in Thursday's Folder.
I think you will love this new way of viewing the artwork from the whole school and I hope you will enjoy the ease of placing your order.

**Notes: If you don't see your student artwork in the School Gallery or have a customized brochure, this means that your student did not finish their artwork in time to be sent to Original Works to process. Please contact me if you're interested in ordering, we will have to do a manual order.**
Thank you as always for your support of the art program at Franktown Elementary! Please feel free to contact me with any questions at dlmurphy@dcsdk12.org.

Lost and FoundWOW! We have lost and found!  If you child lost it, I bet we have it. Please check out our Facebook feed for a picture of what we have. In addition, we will also display it outside on October 29th, during our fall parties.

Borrowed ClothesBorrowed clothes from the Health Room?

If by chance, your child came home in a different outfit one day after school sponsored by the health room. Would you please make sure you wash it and return it to the school as soon as possible. We have a very limited supply.

TIP: If all Kindergarten and 1st grade families would please put a change of clothes in your child’s backpack for emergencies (accidents) that would be very helpful.

Reading Resources
Douglas County School District
Elementary Reading Programs Under Consideration in DCSD

Last year, in order to prepare to meet the new requirements of the READ Act, DCSD selected three core reading programs to pilot in some of our elementary schools. The three programs were selected from the approved list of core resources from the Colorado Department of Education following a thorough review process, and these programs were formally approved by the DCSD Board of Education in the spring of 2021.

The three core reading programs selected were:

  • Benchmark Advance
  • Benchmark Workshop
  • McGraw Hill: Wonders

Currently, 12 of DCSD’s elementary schools are piloting these programs for the fall semester 2021.

ALL KIDS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT

CoGatDear Parents/Guardians,

DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February) and 5th or 6th grade--a student's final year of elementary school (November).

5th/6th Grade Universal Screen

As part of this process, ALL students in 5th grade not identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of Nov. 10-12.  This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates.  These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.

If your child missed their regular universal CogAT screening last year, they will be assessed during this window.  This would pertain to students currently in 3rd and possibly 6th or 7th grade (depending on the last grade in elementary).

If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with information about this process.

Gifted Identification Referral Testing

  • If your child is in grades 3 or 4 and you believe he/she needs evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.
  • NOTE: Requesting this assessment automatically initiates the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification.
  • Please request CogAT testing for your child by completing the Referral for Gifted Identification linked HERE
  • Upon receipt of this form the Gifted Education Facilitator will connect with you to discuss next steps in the gifted identification process.

Our Fall Box Tops contest began Monday, October 4 and will continue through Friday, October 29. Please clip any Box Tops you can still find on product packaging and send them in. A collection envelope will be in every classroom. Prizes will be awarded to the class and the individual student collecting the most. Therefore, your student’s name and class should be on every bag or envelope turned in.

The Box Tops program has been moving to digital. Now, those earned during your shopping visit are identified and credited by scanning the store receipt. The receipt should be scanned within fourteen days of purchase to credit your Box Tops immediately to our school account. The Box Tops mobile app used for scanning is available from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or their site https://www.boxtops4education.com/.

This contest is to collect the physical Box Tops you have. An example of one is on top in the following image. The lower image indicates your receipt should be scanned using the app and is not a physical Box Top.
